Eberle Catampongan

Born on March 23, 1980, in Antipolo, Rizal, Philippines, Eberle Catampongan is a Filipino visual artist known for his detailed portrayals of Philippine heritage, rural life, and historical architecture. Working primarily in acrylic and oil on canvas, he creates nostalgic scenes that celebrate Filipino traditions, community life, and cultural identity. His work is widely associated with the Filipiniana genre, reflecting a commitment to preserving the nation’s history and customs through art.

Education

Catampongan earned a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from the Technological Institute of the Philippines. He later refined his artistic practice through mentorship under the late Antonio “Tony” Mahilum Sr., a respected painter known for his historical and cultural narratives.

Artistic Journey

Trained as an architect, Catampongan eventually pursued painting as a professional career, drawing inspiration from Philippine history, heritage, and vernacular architecture. His architectural background is evident in the meticulous structures and carefully composed environments featured in his works. Over the years, he has developed a distinctive style centered on documenting Filipino traditions, festivals, marketplaces, and everyday provincial life. Through his paintings, he preserves cultural memories while highlighting the richness of Filipino identity.

Notable Works & Exhibits

Among Catampongan’s most recognized works is Pasko sa Nayon, which was featured in Pan de Manila’s 2018 Christmas packaging campaign. Other notable works include Market Scene, Riverside Market, Senakulo, and The Old Tea House. His artworks have been presented in numerous solo and group exhibitions through galleries such as Art Circle Gallery and Nami Art Gallery, including SIKLO (2018), IStoryArt (2019), Patikim (2019), and his solo exhibition Traditions (2023).

Awards & Recognitions

Catampongan received national recognition when Pasko sa Nayon was selected as the featured artwork for Pan de Manila’s 2018 Christmas campaign. He has also completed major commissioned works for institutions including the Limbagan Tomas Pinpin Museum in Bataan. His career and artworks have been featured in publications such as the Philippine Daily Inquirer, Manila Times, Cook Magazine, and F&B Report.
