Hanan is a significant deity in Tagalog mythology, known as the goddess of morning or dawn. She is also recognized as the Filipino Goddess of the New Year. Hanan is one of the three daughters of Bathala, born to a mortal woman. She is particularly important during the start of a new phase or age in one’s life. People offer her bountiful harvests and prayers during the birth of a child, the onset of womanhood or manhood, the passing of a person, the start of the planting season, the beginning of the harvest season, and the start of the new annual cycle. These prayers are conducted at the break of the dawn.
