Ennore Oil Spill

The abstract artwork by Chris Pizarro, inspired by the 2017 Ennore Oil Spill was created based on distant and blurry satellite images. 

The artist used a juxtaposition of light and vibrant colors to convey a sad realization that because we do not experience and see the grim effects of such tragedies, we tend to pay little to no attention to their grave impact on the environment. The black paint spreading to the grey background represents the spread of the oil and chemical leak to the ocean. The painting was created with the intent to remind us of the importance of protecting the planet and the devastation if we fail to do so. Interestingly, the subtle way the artist delivered the message shows us that we can find beauty in the aftermath of the destruction because we can hope and make things happen.
