Tish Alcantara
Tish Alcantara is a contemporary Filipino visual artist who explores themes of femininity, identity, and the various roles women inhabit in society. A graduate of the University of the Philippines Diliman College of Fine Arts, she spent several years in the corporate sector before returning to her artistic roots. Her transition into a full-time art career was deeply personal, driven by her experiences with motherhood and a desire for creative healing.
Artistic Style Her work is characterized by a “pastiche” of styles that combine the flowing, ornamental lines of Art Nouveau with the structured geometric patterns of Art Deco. She also draws significant inspiration from “Shin-hanga,” the 20th-century revival of traditional Japanese woodblock printing (Ukiyo-e). Her paintings typically feature elegant female figures depicted with nuanced forms, often rendered in acrylic or mixed media on canvas.
Key Work and Recognition Alcantara is known for series such as “Tender Embrace” and “Mother and Child,” which highlight empowerment and the visibility of women in the male-dominated art scene. Her 2024 solo exhibition, “WAGARA: From Kimono to Canvas,” showcased her interest in Japanese aesthetic traditions. Her works are frequently exhibited in Manila-based galleries, including Art Circle Gallery.
