Roland Delos Santos

Born in 1952 in Tanay, Roland Delos Santos is a still life artist whose passion for art ignited during his elementary years. He found inspiration in the works of talented illustrators such as FC Javinal, Nestor Redondo, Angel Cacnio, Tony Carabana, Alex Nino and Larry Alcala. Spending countless hours copying their comic illustrations, this became his training and favorite pastime.

From 1975 to 1980, Delos Santos studied under Ibarra de la Rosa at FEATI, and his recent works center on antique Chinese Jars and he aimed to create a series that would resemble a collection under glass. He drew inspiration from his own collection of antique jars and some references from Christie’s and Sotheby’s catalogs.

His artistic journey also includes influences from artist like Tam Austria and Andrew Wyeth. He was a part of the Tanay Group that was founded in 1975 with artists such as Martin Catolos, Joni and Charley Pagalunan, Crispin Agno, Rustico Timtiman, and Nestor Villarosa. Even if the art scene changes he continues to find inspiration in Tanay’s landscapes. To him Tanay’s scenery remains a rich source of inspiration, even as the town evolves.
