Adrian Morales

Adrian Morales is a Filipino visual artist known for his stylized interpretation of Philippine folk life and everyday rural themes. Working primarily in oil and acrylic on canvas, his paintings combine figurative imagery with geometric abstraction, bold outlines, and controlled color palettes. His works often depict vendors, harvest scenes, musicians, families, and still life subjects rendered in a modernist, cubist-inspired approach.

Education

Morales pursued Mechanical Engineering studies at Notre Dame College in Cotabato. After relocating to Manila in 1992, he trained under his uncle, artist William Yu. He was also exposed to the influence of established artists and movements, including César Legaspi, Inday Cadapan, and the modernist aesthetics of Fernand Léger.

Born in Baganga, Davao Oriental on September 6, 1971, Adrian Morales transitioned from engineering studies to full-time artistic practice through mentorship and studio training. His style evolved into a distinctive fusion of Philippine folk imagery and geometric abstraction, characterized by expressive forms and structured compositions. His first exhibition in Bacolod City during the 1997 MassKara Festival reportedly achieved a sold-out reception, helping establish his presence in the Philippine contemporary art scene.
