Isab Angeles

Isab Angeles (born Barbara Ruth Chanco Angeles, 1969) is a self-taught Filipino visual artist known for her organic abstractions and evocative landscapes. Based in Quezon City, she transitioned from a career as an art consultant to a full-time artist, gaining recognition for her unique technical approach and deep connection to nature.

Angeles is celebrated for her signature organic abstraction style. Her work is characterized by:

  • Intricate Line Work: Using very fine paintbrushes to create delicate, gestural lines.

  • Luminous Palette: A self-mixed palette featuring iridescent and metallic hues that create a shimmering quality and play with light.

  • Thematic Focus: Her paintings often explore the “existence and essence” of the natural world, focusing on mountains, florals, and landscapes that blend tangible forms with fantastical interpretations.

  • Mediums: Primarily works with acrylic on canvas, though she initially began her practice using pastels.
