Gil Maningo
Gil Maningo (Gil Francis Maningo) is a multi-disciplinary Cebuano artist recognized as a “renaissance man” of the Philippine creative scene. Born in 1958, he is most widely celebrated as a master caricaturist, but his career spans photography, music, acting, and entrepreneurship.
A graduate of Fine Arts from UP Diliman, he was mentored by National Artist Jose Joya and the “Amorsolo of the South,” Martino Abellana. His work often features gold leafing and expressionist styles.
Worked as a graphic artist for the Chicago Sun-Times Magazine and exhibited at the Philippine Center in New York.
A former recording artist for OctoArts Records and a finalist in the Cebu Pop Music Festival. He has also appeared as an actor, notably portraying the character “Valiente.”
His art is deeply rooted in his faith, often imbuing his pieces with symbols of spirituality and the concept of Sprezzatura—achieving a sense of “studied nonchalance” or effortless grace in his work.
