SUMMARY:Baldemor Exploring Angkor Wat
DESCRIPTION:A new series of watercolor impressions by Manuel Baldemor\, inspired by his exploration of Angkor Wat in Cambodia. \n\nWelcome to Exploring Angkor Wat\, Manuel Baldemor’s latest series of watercolor paintings inspired by his exploration of one of Cambodia’s most extraordinary landmarks. Known for turning his travels into visual journals\, Baldemor uses the quick-drying medium to capture his impressions\, observations\, and experiences as they unfold. \nTravel has always been an important part of Manuel Baldemor’s artistic practice. Wherever he goes\, he looks\, observes\, takes in the details\, and records what catches his attention through painting. His journeys have become visual journals-personal impressions of places experienced firsthand. Exploring Angkor Wat continues this practice through a series of watercolor and acrylic paintings depicting one of Cambodia’s most extraordinary landmarks. The choice of watercolor and acrylic medium are particularly fitting. Its quick-drying nature allows Baldemor to work with immediacy\, capturing his thoughts and experiences as they unfold. We are looking at his impression paintings of Angkor Wat\, formed in the moment of exploration-what caught his eye\, what stayed with him\, and how he experienced the place. \nBaldemor’s interest in Angkor Wat also has a history. In 2006\, he wrote about the ancient Khmer Empire and the extraordinary temple built under King Suryavarman II\, tracing its history from its construction and decline to its rediscovery and recognition as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. His connection to Cambodia has since taken another form through LUZVIMINDA\, his monumental mural at the Philippine Embassy in Phnom Penh. The mural extends his artistic journey using Cambodian sandstone\, bringing his distinctly Filipino visual language into a new cultural setting with the assistance of Cambodian artisans. The unveiling ceremony of the mural was directly led by His Royal Highness Prince Chakravuth Norodom\, who co-unveiled the artwork alongside Philippine Ambassador Flerida Ann Camille P. Mayo and Manuel Baldemor. The broader diplomatic events hosted by the Philippine Embassy around this period also saw the presence of Her Highness Princess Chansita Norodom as a distinguished royal guest. Now\, with Exploring Angkor Wat\, Baldemor returns to the role he knows so well: the artist-traveler\, curious about what lies beyond the familiar and eager to record what he discovers. These watercolors and acrylic are his impressions of Angkor Wat as he encountered it-quickly observed\, immediately painted\, and preserved as art. Another place explored. Another experience recorded. Another page added to Baldemor’s visual journal. \nExplore the Gallery >
